Tufted puffins typically select islands or cliffs that are relatively inaccessible to predators, close to productive waters, and high enough that they can take to the air successfully.

During the breeding season tufted puffins develop a white face with long golden feathers down either side of their heads. They are not considered endangered, but numbers are much lower today than they once were. At Living Coasts we are home to 8 tufted puffins.
