By adopting an otter you will make a real contribution to the vital conservation work that Living Coasts does to protect marine animals.
There are 13 different species of otter. Living Coasts is home to the Asian short-clawed otter and their enclosure has been designed to mimic their natural habitat as closely as possible.
They have one of the most expensive houses in Torbay with access to both fresh and saltwater pools, plus a fast-running stream to play in.
Asian short-clawed otters can have two litters of one to six young per year. The new born pups weigh around 50 grams, are toothless, practically immobile and their eyes are closed. They remain in their birthing dens and spend their first few weeks nursing and sleeping.
Otters are real characters and highly intelligent animals which is why we have developed enrichment in their enclosure to keep them stimulated.
