The African penguin is an Endangered species, largely as a result of egg collectors and habitat degradation. Heavy fishing practices along with oil spills and construction in coastal areas has seriously depleted their available food and space.

Living Coasts supports the rehabilitation of penguins in the wild and is part of the European Endangered species breeding programme (EEP). We have also become very successful at breeding and rearing penguins ourselves.

How do I adopt an African penguin?

First choose the adoption package you wish to purchase from the options below, and then make your animal selection.

Adoptions apply to the species rather than individual animals. This is because our animals may move to other zoos as part of breeding programmes.
