In 2003, when Living Coasts opened, the plants were mostly native species. In present day, things look very different. There are architectural plants like echiums and succulents, that have been added by our fantastic Gardens team.
The idea behind this more recent planting is to create mixed beds and a carpet effect with year round colour and interest - be it through shape, texture or form.
Over a thousand plants have been planted around the site, covering the soil and reducing the need for watering and maintenance. These plants are well adapted to the coastal climate of Living Coasts and look especially beautiful when they begin to bloom in the Spring.
