Torquay’s coastal zoo gave visitors the chance to vote for her name. Living Coasts’ Marketing Manager Katherine Sobey explained: “We had a shortlist of ten names. Some were suggested by staff, others by people on Facebook. We had a collecting box in the entrance hall. People were able to vote by dropping a donation into the appropriate slot. That way, everyone who visited us got to vote and we raised money for conservation in the process.”

Gemini can be seen most days by visitors to Living Coasts, though she is living apart from the adult seals because she is very small and doesn’t yet swim well enough to hold her own with the adults.

The ten short-listed names were: Clara; Gemini; Ariana; Destiny; Milagro (meaning miracle); Hope; Elsa; Cookie; Faith; Devon. The top three were Gemini, Destiny and Elsa. The vote raised over £300 raised for conservation projects. For more information go to or ring 01803 202470.
