Penguin Chick Hatches

2 June 2010

The first macaroni penguin chick of the season has hatched at Living Coasts.

The chick hatched on Tuesday 18th May. This photo of it with mother Corinne was taken by Living Coasts volunteer photographer Jennie Rattlidge.

The parents are Corinne and Blue, Living Coasts’ most regular and most successful pair of macaroni penguins. They have reared five chicks in their time at the coastal zoo.

There are nearly one hundred free-ranging African and macaroni penguins at Living Coasts. Visitors can walk among them and see them being fed at close quarters. Macaroni penguins build their nests out of pebbles.
