An update on the macaroni penguins and their new home.

Earlier in the year the team at Living Coasts constructed a brand new beach for the stunning macaroni penguins. Located opposite the main Penguin Beach this new habitat closely resembles the rocky, pebbley shores that are home to macaronis in the wild. The development of this new section of habitat has allowed us to bring both species together in one specialized penguin exhibit.

After a little bit of exploration the macaronis eventually started to pick thier spots and build their nests, now just a few weeks later we are proud to say that all of our breeding pairs are now sitting on eggs. Of the 6 pairs that have laid 3 are on their second egg, this is the egg that they will incubate until it hatches while the others are on their first, practice eggs.

We are hoping that the first chick to hatch around the 24th of May.

I wish to be a good luck to
