Floating Zoo

13 January 2010

In the marine world it's the little things that count!

There are literally billions of tiny plants and animals all drifting around the ocean with the tides like a floating zoo. Join us at Living Coasts to find out about the miniature marine marvel that is plankton; what can it teach us about our world and learn why it has a very important part to play in your existence.

Come along and experience some of the special events we have planned to explore this microscopic world. We will be running a special Plankton Discovery Trail as well as hosting an incredible display of plankton images by Dr Richard Kirby, Royal Society University Research Fellow. This fantastic collection of images shows an array of plankton species in a series of 30 A1 photographs. (All of these images have been sponsored by Carl Zeiss Microscopes)

During Half Term (13th-21st February)
we will be running work shops to trawl for and identify plankton, carrying out fun jellyfish crafts and even making giant plankton.
