Ping the Penguin Blog

Tap, Tap. Tap?

I went for a walk this morning, down by the Macaroni penguins. I kept hearing tap, tap, tap. Something is going on, but what? (click the link to read more)

The tapping isn’t the only odd thing today. The keepers keep having a look at the Macaroni penguins. All of our penguin patrollers were here this morning. Everyone seems quite excited. So I thought I would have a look too when Blue stood up and I saw that the egg he was sat on had a hole in it. Through this hole was poking a tiny beak. It’s hatching!

I think the reason they all get so excited about the Macaroni chicks, is because they can only breed once a year. African penguins are so clever that they can breed most of the year and have two chicks at a time.

I’ll write soon and let you know how it’s doing.

Love Ping x

P.S Congratulations to my Aunt Rosie and Uncle George as they have had another chick.
