Ping the Penguin Blog

Our curious adventure!

There has been such a lot of excitement over the last few weeks. Lots of people have been talking about new things happening at Living Coasts. It’s not happening here on Penguin Beach, but I have noticed a few things..... (Click to read link ).

When swimming in the pool a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that downstairs, where people stand to watch me swim, there has been other things happening. Planks of wood and large tanks have been going past the window. What I want to know is where are they going and why?

I couldn’t stop wondering, so Albert and I decided to go and find out. We waited till all the staff had left. I have left Penguin Beach once before, so we knew how to explore other areas of Living Coasts. We went past the puffins, avocets and down towards the seals.

Getting through the plastic curtains is a skill for a small penguin like myself. You have to wait until the wind blows it and then run through the gap. I made it straight through, but Albert took a couple of goes. Then down the dark ramp to the Mangrove, past lots of fish, unfortunately no sprats, as this long walk had made us both quite hungry! Past seahorses and starfish and round to our underwater viewing window. Through the tunnel, a little scary for us penguins as there are seals swimming above.

Albert was a little frightened, but I said he would be fine with me. Around the corner and "Wow" a sunken ship with something inside! We looked in for a bit, then saw a leg waving and another and another, in fact, eight legs! Albert asked what it was and before I answered, "I am an octopus" was the reply from the tank. There were other legs waving from other tanks too. We chatted for a bit, then thought we better head back, or our parents would worry.

We had a fantastic time, what an adventure. See you soon!
