Ask Ping!
What a busy week we have had! Lots of visitors have been coming in to see me and take my picture and keep the penguin patrollers busy with lots of questions, so I thought that since I was a penguin expert I would answer some of these questions for you. (Click the title to read more)
Firstly it was great to hear people asking for me by name and wanting to see me, although I am a little surprised I was not instantly recognisable – I heard quite a few people saying we all look the same!
African penguins are all different to look at; sometimes it just takes a little time to work out the differences. You may have noticed that we all have beautiful spots on our stomachs and if you look closely you will see that every one of us has a different spot pattern. This is unique to us just like your fingerprints are to you, so that may help you work out which one I am from the rest of the African penguins.
Of course the Macaroni penguins don’t really have spots (apart from Waddle) so I have been having a good look at them. They come in different shapes and sizes, the crests on their heads and their beaks seem to be very different, however they all have a bracelet around the top of their wings (like all of us African penguins) with different colours on – I think that is the keepers way of cheating to tell them apart. My bracelet is a lovely shiny colour with human writing on it. I think it says “Ping is awesome”.
Next time you are here why not take some time to look for me!
More ask Ping next time!
Love Ping xx
