Ping the Penguin Blog

Babies

When I woke up this morning I wondered why there were so many members of staff hanging around on our beach so early, but then I heard a soft peep peep peeping sound which could only mean one thing - a baby had been born! (Click the title to read more.)

Six Macaroni penguin pairs have laid eggs over the last five weeks, and the first one hatched out very early in the morning after about 37 days. Corin and Blue are the first proud parents and are now taking it in turns to keep the baby safe and well fed on regurgitated fishy soup, yum! I went over to inspect it and it is very cute. At the moment it still has an egg tooth which it used to break out of its egg, and is so tiny when Corin or Blue sit over it you can't even see it!
No-one knows if it is a boy or a girl yet, but I hope it won't be long before we have some more babies so that I have some more friends to play with!

Do come and visit us soon!
